Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to all our volunteers, patrons and supporters. Hope that you will join me in considering ACT and/or another deserving non-profit with the Pick Click Give Program when you apply for your PFD. You have the option of making a donation to a qualifying non-profit right as you finish the PFD application process.
Auditions for Proof, directed by Mike Faust, are scheduled for 6 PM this Monday January 9. Auditions are held at the ACT Studio Theatre at 1133 E. 70th. No preparation of material is necessary. You will be asked to read from the script of the play in dialogue with others. Contact Mike Faust with questions. Characters:
Robert. 50s
Catherine. 25
Claire. 29
Hal. 28
Winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play. On the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father's who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father's madness—or genius—will she inherit?
Tonight, from 5pm-8pm, we will be hosting an open house for a trip down memory lane at ACT. We have a vast amount of photos, programs and posters to spark people’s memories and get the conversation going. If you haven’t been around ACT for very long, this is a great opportunity to meet the people who have come before us and learn about their ACT legacy. Join us, and share and hear stories of our past! Long time Artistic and Managing Bob Pond and his daughter Teresa Pond (who served as our Executive Director in the early 90s) will be attending, as will Brian Saylor, our current Board President. So stop in, say hello to old friends, and share a slice of pie and some ACT history.
ACT is holding an acting class for kids and teens taught by Justin Birchell on four Saturdays starting tomorrow January 7 - January 28 from 1 to 3 PM. It is an interactive class for ages 8 - 18 where you will learn the tools to be an actor and what it means to build a character. Justin is a great actor who was featured in The 39 Steps, Pump Boys and Dinettes, and Witness for the Prosecution. The cost is $70 for the full class or $20 per session. Call 344-4713 or email Kate Williams, our education coordinator, for more information or to sign up.
We have an amazing cast for this award winning play. Go online or give us a call now at 868-4913 to reserve your seats. Shows are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 and Sunday afternoons at 3 through February 19. Our shows tend to sell out towards the end of the run so come to see a great show early. Tickets are only $15 for adults, $13 for seniors/military/students, and $11 for kids under 12.
